Physical Education/Health Syllabus
Instructor: Mrs. Keith
Class Description: This course is designed to help provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to engage in a physically active, healthy lifestyle throughout life.
Course Objectives: The student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
2. Demonstrate understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
3. Participate regularly in physical activity.
4. Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
5. Exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical active settings.
6. Value physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
7. Exhibit the proper discipline of health education by demonstrating the physical, mental, and social well-being factors of everyday life.
Required Materials:
Physical Education:
1. School approved T-shirt (No cut-off sleeves)
2. School approved shorts (No jean shorts)
3. Socks
4. Tennis shoes that do not leave marks on the gym floor (No street shoes)
*Students may bring others items like deodorant, hair brush, etc.
Health Education: (7th & 8th Grade Only)
1. Writing Utensil (keep in your P.E. locker)
2. 3 Ring Binder Notebook (keep in your P.E. locker)
3. Paper that will fit inside notebook
*You will keep everything from class in this notebook throughout the semester. At the end of the semester you will turn in your health notebook for a grade.
Evaluation:
Ten points will be given daily in Physical Education class based on the listed points below. Failure to fulfill any of these requirements will result in points being deducted.
1. Be to class on time
2. Participation and Attitude
3. Dress out daily in required clothing listed above 5. Exhibit Proper Discipline
4. No Jewelry, Gum, Candy, Phones, Food or Drink (except water)
*You will be given five minutes at the beginning of class and ten minutes at the end of class to change clothes and shower.
*The other portion of your grade will be based on classroom quizzes, assignments, written tests, and demonstration of skills.
Make Up Work:
-You will receive a zero in daily points for all Un-excused Absences.
-You will be required to make up excused absences by doing some form of physical activity at home and your guardian needs to sign a form to prove that you have done so. You can pick up the form from me.
-Activities include: walking, basketball, volleyball, biking, etc.
-Failure to make up excused absences will result in a zero for each day absent.
**I feel that receiving all ten daily points when you are gone is not fair to the students who are in class earning their points! You have to make up work in other classes when you are gone…P.E. isn’t any different!
**Doctors notes are required for a student to be excused from class. Parent or guardian notes will not be accepted.
Grading Scale:
A = 90-100%
B = 89-80%
C = 79-70%
D = 69-60%
F = 59% & Below
